Mt. Meru- view from Fishers Camp

These are the remnants of the Shira Volcano. In the distance
is Mt. Meru- part of the same volcanic chain of mountains.

The local Masai have traded in their traditionally nomadic
lifestyle roaming across the Serengeti and have opted to
plant corn, coffee and banannas on the rich volcanic soil of
Mt. Meru. 

Crater Camp @ 18,500 feet

We descended from Uhuru Peak down the scree field behind
the camp- about 900 feet vertically.
